How Do I Supplicate during Salah?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

1) What is the perfect time for saying my dua for my son, my family, or myself during obligatory, nafl, or tahajjud salah?

2) Can I make my dua in my native language?

3) Can I make my dua loudly?

4) Shall I make my munajat after the completion of Salah? Or shall I make my dua during the last Tashahhud?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The answers to your first three questions are here:

Supplicating in Prostration
Adab of Dua 24: The States That Can Change Fate

As for your last question, I am uncertain about what you mean. Munajat means intimate discourse, so if you speak about making dua to Allah from your heart and asking for deen and dunya and everything else in between, this would be most appropriate after the fard prayer an auspicious time for that.

Abu Umama al-Bahili, Allah be pleased with him, reported, “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and give him peace, was asked, ‘At what time does the supplication find the greatest response?‘ He replied, ‘A supplication made during the middle of the last part of the night and after the conclusion of the obligatory prayers.’” [Tirmidhi]

May Allah answer all of your prayers and give you the best in this world and the next.
