Is Seeing the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) as One’s Mother in a Dream Authentic?
Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Question
I saw a dream I am certain was of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), though he appeared in the form of my mother and gave me consoling counsel. Was this a true vision?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and Compassionate
May Allah set your heart at ease
By the criteria of classical scholars who have written on dream interpretation (such as Munawi in his commentary on Ibn al-Wardi, or Abd al-Ghani al-Nablusi), this dream falls within the category of a true vision (ru’ya).
Visions of the Prophet are True-and a Blessing if Lived in Guidance and Uprightness
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever sees me in a dream has truly seen me, for Satan cannot impersonate me.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
Thus, such a dream is itself a great blessing and glad tidings (bishara), if one strives to live its meanings on the straight path of guidance.
The Confirmation of Such Visions
As our noble teacher, Shaykh Anas al-Musa, puts it, “Any vision in which the dreamer is informed that what they are seeing is the Prophet—whether the Prophet informs them directly, someone else tells them, or they simply feel in their heart that it is the Prophet—regardless of the appearance, is a true vision of the Prophet.” [al-Musa, How Can I Confirm That I Have Seen the Prophet in a Dream? — SeekersGuidance Answers]
On Receiving Such a Vision Rightly
This vision would appear to be a call to strive to uphold the teachings of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk) with respect to the rights of your mother and father, with greater excellence.
Remember the beauty of this dream, and the meaning of guidance, and strive to live it.
Embrace this, and Allah Most High will increase you through it.
And Allah knows best.
