How Do I Deal with Brief Feelings of Drops After Urination as a Woman?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
All rulings about urine apply to men. I am female and sometimes experience drops and a brief feeling after urination. Waiting for it all to stop could take hours, risking missing prayers, so I ignore it. The doctor says nothing is wrong. Should I ignore it or wait until I’m finished? These drops don’t nullify wudu. The extended bathroom time stresses me and angers my parents.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
From your question, it seems that you are experiencing a feeling of wetness due to the wash post-urine, but it is not the trickling of urine drops from the bladder. I suggest waiting for a short while after washing, maybe for less than a minute. Sprinkle some water, and leave it to that.
One can simply assume with a high level of certainty that water remains on one’s private parts, unless there are clear signs of the continual exiting of urine, such as a clearly discernible color. If one doubts that the water may be mixed with urine, these should be ignored.
[‘Ala’ al-Din ‘Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-‘Ala’iyya]
If you have doubts after this, the Messenger of Mercy (Allah bless him and give him peace) instructed us to simply sprinkle a little water in one’s undergarments. After this, any sensation or doubt is ignored [ِAbu Dawud, others]. This sprinkling is also established from his own practice.
Advice and Suggestion
I suggest you perform your prayer well after you have urinated, so your bladder is near empty or less likely to leak urine.
I advise you to do Kegel exercises to prevent or control urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor problems. Kegel exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support the uterus, bladder, small intestine, and rectum. You can do Kegel exercises, also known as pelvic floor muscle training, anytime.
