How Do I Get Rid of My Boyfriend Who Is Blackmailing Me To Stay With Him?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I have a boyfriend, and now I want to get rid of him. He has some dirt on me, and he is currently blackmailing me and forcing me to go on with this relationship. Is there any dua that will help me get rid of this person from my life forever?

Answer

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry that you were dating and, even worse, that you were dating a flake. May Allah help you out of this.

Sincere Repentance

The first step always is to ask Allah to forgive you, sincerely repent with all its conditions, and never get close to another man until you are married. Allah is the Most Merciful of the merciful, and He loves to forgive his servants as He told us in His words, “Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says,˺ “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.“ [Qur’an, 39:53]

Fearless

In the same way that you fearlessly, or foolishly, decided to have a boyfriend, you must let go of him, be firm, and face whatever consequences come your way. Don’t fear what will happen because it will be better than remaining in Allah’s displeasure no matter what it is. Being with a man you don’t want to be with is akin to being kidnapped or trafficked. Ask Allah to help you, pray the Prayer of Need, and cut it off for good.

How Does One Perform The Prayer Of Need (salat al-haja)?

Du’a

I recommend that you start with not missing any prayers, learning your personally obligatory knowledge, and reading some Qu’ran every day, even if only a line, and then recite the following du’as and invocations daily, even after your need is fulfilled.

 رَبِّ إِنِّى لِمَا أَنزَلۡتَ إِلَىَّ مِنۡ خَيۡرٍ۬ فَقِيرٌ۬

“[…]My Lord! truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!” [Qur’an 28:24]

Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye. Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You. [Abu Dawud]
