Is It Permissible for Me to Supplicate That Allah Make This Man My Husband?

Question:
A sister I know had seen a man once and felt a strong urge to marry him. She just prayed and prayed and got a proposal from his family. I also have feelings for someone who barely knows me. I know this might not work out because it’s unrequited love, but still, I want to pray to marry him. I don’t want to be obsessed, but I want to ask Allah. I am ready for either outcome. Is it okay if I ask Allah for him once in my dua’s?

Thank you for your question. It is permissible for you to ask Allah for anything that you want, as long as you are within the etiquette of supplication.
Etiquette of supplication
You have the right attitude about supplicating to your Lord, Most High. One should ask Allah, knowing that He knows us better than we know ourselves and that He will provide for us in the way and in the timing that He has deemed fit. In the meantime, prepare yourself to be the best wife that you can be. Take a course here on marriage and review your personally obligatory fiqh (fard `ayn). Humble yourself in worship to your Lord and remember Him at all times. Keep yourself busy with acquiring useful skills, learning, exercising, and helping others.
